Preventing HIV, HCV, and STBBIs with federally incarcerated people in BC

Project Funding: The Public Health Agency of Canada
Project Period: 2022 – 2027

Project Funding: The Public Health Agency of Canada
Project Period: 2017 – 2022

The CCPHE is leading a participatory project to develop, implement, and evaluate an HIV/HCV/STBBI-prevention program with peer educators who are incarcerated in federal correctional facilities. CCPHE will train teams of peer educators, known as Peer Health Reps, to provide support, education, and resources for their peers around the prevention of HIV/HCV/STBBIs and harm reduction strategies. The findings could be used to recommend ways that other Canadian correctional facilities might adopt participatory peer education approaches, and/or collaborate with community health organizations, to improve health in correctional facilities.
