After several months of hospitalization for chronic health conditions, it is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our dear friend and co-worker, Larry Howett. He passed on the evening of Sunday September 10th surrounded by family, friends, and colleagues. We cannot do justice to “the man of a few thousand words” in only a few hundred. Larry joined CCPHE as a community-based project assistant in 2012 and dedicated many hours to a variety of projects from HIV prevention to community reintegration, always offering genuine advice from personal experience while also making us chuckle with his sardonic humor. In addition to his service at CCPHE, Larry has been involved with too many organizations to count – from John Howard Society to Long-Term Inmates Now in the Community – and will undoubtedly be missed by all. Over the years, Larry impacted so many peoples’ lives and could always be counted on to pick someone up on their release date, accompany them to a doctor’s appointment, or talk them down from the brink of a crisis. Larry’s life was a testament to his tremendous personal transformation and his ability to empower others to change themselves. We will update this page with the details of Larry’s memorial service.
